Trump supporters, I dare you, anti-trump supporters and everyone else to take the TRUMP CHALLENGE! But before I get into what the challenge is, let me provide some context for anyone who has been living under a rock for the past year and a half. Presidential hopeful, Donald J. Trump is notorious for many things. This comprises of throwing the usual political etiquettes out the window and speaking his mind; something his supporters love about him. An example of this includes calling Democrats and even fellow Republicans the “L” word and reacting (good or bad) to everything on twitter.  And most recently, making a bad joke that can be misconstrued as a death threat against his component. Oh, and don’t forget, declaring President Obama as the “founder of ISIS.”

Why the challenge?

So, I know that many of you are completely fed up with politics and are rolling your eyes right now as you read these words, but hear me out. I am a public school educator in a district that primarily consists of students of color. My district lies within an underprivileged area where greater than 90% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. This is similar to other low-income communities across America. I would like to ensure that these young children that we (teachers across America) educate, struggle with, nurture, get frustrated over, finally get through to and love…has a long and bright future ahead of them. Trump promises:

“There will be no lies. We will honor the American people with the truth and nothing else.” These words were stated within the first few minutes of his hour and 13 minute Republican National Convention speech. Well, I would like to hold him accountable to those words and these…

  • “I have no patience for injustice”
  • “I will work to ensure that all of our kids are treated equally and protected equally.”
  • “Every action I take, I will ask myself, does this make better for young Americans in Baltimore, in Chicago, in Detroit, in Ferguson, who have really in every way folks the same right to live out their dreams as any other child in America.”

These are words that speak to me as a voter, educator, social justice advocate and mom. My purpose is NOT to endorse any candidate here.  But as a civic-minded AmeriCorps alum, I say, let’s do our part and act.

Call to action:

Let’s make the best out of Trump’s bid for presidency and turn negative comments into positive action. Since Mr. Trump is running on the platform that he is the “law and order candidate” we can make a difference regardless of whether he is elected. Every time Mr. Trump says something offensive, can be perceived as offensive or makes a false statement about any subject or issue publically (via any traditional or social media), make a minimum $5 donation to the #TrumpChallenge GoFundMe page and/OR post a video. This must be a video of you repeating something Trump said and then washing your mouth out with soap.

Trump Challenge:

  1. Trump says something offensive or false
  2. You donate $5 Here and/or…
  3. You upload a video to your social media pages saying…
  • Facebook: I am doing the #TrumpChallenge. Trump said… I agree/disagree with his words, then wash your mouth out with soap.
  • Twitter: Provide link to video or Facebook post
  1. Challenge 1-2 more people to donate or clean Trump’s (I mean their) mouth out as well.
  2. Like and share posts from other people who had responses you agree with
  3. Vote at the end of the challenge on which law enforcement department you think should receive the money.

Please feel free to backdate from his rhetoric during the primaries.

This is a fund to raise money to improve police relations within underprivileged and low-income communities. This fund is to also make sure during reform efforts we recruit and honor more officers like Peter Cybulski and single dad, Sgt. Hameed Armani who are willing to sacrifice their lives for us and are a credit to the uniform. Once the challenge is over, I invite Mr. Trump the option to match the amount raised by Americans so that we may begin real change. This would be to support police departments in their reform efforts to create a community-oriented, mutually respected and unbiased police department.

I propose the following…

#TrumpChallenge Fund

Who gets the money?

You vote on the Law Enforcement Department that comes up with the best plan on how to implement the money towards improving police relations within their communities. This could include but not be limited to body cams, a series of police/community networking events, police hosting/serving free food to low-income families, etc.

How will that be determined?

A criteria will be given for eligibility to law enforcement.

Who is in charge?

A bi-partisan Advisory board representing all stakeholders (including trump representative if he matches?) will view applications and decide on top 20 Law Enforcement plan finalists to be put before you (America) for your vote.

How many winners?

Depends on amount of money raised.

There will be 100% transparency. Everything will be public (data, law enforcement plans, people on the bi-partisan advisory board along with a public profile, voter results, winner, progress report on plan from winner, final report from winner).

What should be the challenge for Hillary? I welcome your input and help, please share and comment
